| “We’re all excited because we’re going
to town to get 'tutored' today!” Actually these pups
will be even happier because they’re to be spayed and neutered. (Patrick,
Nicole, and Pink will travel securely in pet crates.)
McKinley County Humane Society is proud to announce the opening of a spay-neuter clinic within the shelter. Discount spay-neuter surgeries will be offered every Wednesday to low-income (including “working poor”) pet owners. MCHS takes in over 6,000 animals per year, primarily cats and dogs. There is epidemic pet overpopulation in Gallup and the outlying reservations, which is increasing day-by-day. Though some of the animals are feral, most still trust humans and are grateful for food and care. They can be great pets and companions. Yet even the healthier and friendliest strays, including puppies and kittens, brought to the shelter are unlikely to be adopted due to sheer numbers exceeding available homes. Transfer programs are not a long-term solution. Prevention is the key to reducing the number of animals put down each week. Spay-neuter, and education of the public about it's importance, must remain our number one priority if we want to reduce the euthanasia rate. MCHS would like to thank Bro and Tracy Animal Welfare for their financial support of this project. Your donations to MCHS operations, which will assist with ongoing surgical necessities, are tax deductible. |
